You can return your classic bike or ebike to any station with an open dock – you don't have to bring it back to the station where you picked it up.
Ending Your Ride
Tap on a station to see the exact number of bikes and docks available. Once you’ve found an open dock, line up the triangle located at the front of the bike with the dock, then insert your bike gently but firmly, holding the bike in place for at least 5 seconds. Please don’t slam it! When the light on the dock turns green, your bike has been properly locked. Just keep in mind, it can sometimes take a few minutes for a dock to register that your bike was returned.
Please always make sure your bike is docked at a Citi Bike station when your ride is over; never leave it unattended.
You can find a station to end your ride at in the app. Don't see the station you were looking for? Visit our Service Updates page to learn more about station service updates.
Overflow parking
Riding in Jersey City or Hoboken? Some stations in these areas have Overflow Parking available. Certain stations will have overflow parking areas when the station is full or near full. Just look for a white pin in your app.
When docks are full, you can park an ebike in overflow at no additional cost.
- Park your ebike directly next to the station docks
- Look for open spaces to the left, right, or behind, keeping pathways clear
- Put your kickstand down, then tap the End Ride button
- When prompted, take a photo of your ebike parked with the station in the background
- Once you end your ride, the ebike will be locked until the next rider picks it up
