This program was developed to thank users who help redistribute bikes to where they’re needed throughout the city. Monthly and annual members who sign up as a Bike Angel earn points towards rewards such as free day passes and membership extensions. See the official Bike Angel's page to learn more!
To become an Angel:
- The easiest way to register is to see the menu on the Citi Bike App and opt-in!
- Don’t use the app? Head to the Citi Bike website and become a Bike Angel from your profile there.
- Rewards are automatically given based on how many points you earn as a Bike Angel in a given month.
Tracking points
You can always check the points earned on your most recent trip and your monthly, annual, and lifetime points total in your ride history within the app or your member profile on Citi Bike's website.
If you think there's a trip you believe should have earned a point that did not award the point, there are a few different reasons this might have occurred.
Trip Impact: Trips that start at a station in need of bikes and trips that end at a station in need of docking space are not eligible to earn points as these trips are much less likely to help an additional rider.
Trip Timing: Bike Angels scores on the map update every 15 minutes right now. "Real-time" scores mean that points are most likely to help a fellow rider. The score changes occur on the hour along with 15, 30, and 45 minutes past the hour.
In rare cases, the points take a few minutes to register.
How do the membership extensions work?
As soon as you cross a point threshold that earns a membership extension, the expiration date on your account will be extended by exactly one week. You'll also receive an email informing you of your new membership expiration date. You can view your membership expiration date at any point in your member profile.
Neither your payment plan nor renewal settings will change when this reward is earned. The maximum number of weekly extensions you can earn in a single month is four.
