These custom shared pedal-assist electric bikes were developed by Motivate, the operator of Citi Bike and the same team that designs the latest Citi Bike fleet that you see on the road today. It’s powered by a front-wheel pedal assist motor that allows you to ride up to 18 mph with an electric “boost” (you can go even faster if you keep pedaling harder!).
Turn on the electric assist by pressing the “power” button on the battery located on the bike’s downtube. (Make sure the bike is at a standstill before you press the power button, or else it won’t turn on!). When you’re finished riding, dock it at any Citi Bike dock. The electric assist will turn off automatically after several minutes of inactivity.
